Why Every Mom Should Start a Blog

When I started my own blog, The TRUTH about Motherhood, I had no idea how the world could open up to me by being a part of the blogging community. Who could have known?

You really cannot understand this phenomenon until you have experienced it. I am neck deep in it and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else. I am pretty sure any blogger worth her salt, who’s been around for a while, would agree.

In a little over three years, I have “met” some of the most amazing women in the world. Women who were always out there but I would never have had the opportunity and pleasure to know because of our geographic limitations. Not a lot of opportunity to meet so much awesome in a cornfield when you are pregnant and or raising little ones. Women from all over the world and all walks of life.

I have women that I talk to every single day of the week, hundreds and thousands of miles away. Most of them, I have never gotten to hang out with in person and have a glass of wine with, but they are my friends. We have helped raise one another’s children, we watch them grow, and we discuss our husbands and school systems and what to make for dinner.

They have gotten me through some of the hardest parts of motherhood, have been there to celebrate the small things and put in perspective those things that have overwhelmed me. These women are my elected conscience and my chosen sisters. I love these girls. I know there are those out there who would say the same about me. Mom Bloggers are my red tent tribe and I am honored to belong with them.

I think most bloggers start their blog to write because, at our core, we are writers. Then something magical happens; something that transcends space and time, through our vulnerability in our words and our raw courage in sharing those words, we make real connections to those who read us and those who we read.

The exchange is real and authentic from the beginning. No one cares what we are wearing or what we look like or how cool or uncool we might be. Unlike the awkward, guarded way we behave when we meet someone in person for the first time, through blogging we are able to just be ourselves, and it is an amazing feeling.

If we are completely honest in our writing, the relationships are real because there is no buffer. There is no point in writing what you think people want to hear, we write what we feel. We write what we can’t say out loud. We write the truth of who we are, the good, the bad or ugly because the rejection is not as painful or obvious through a computer screen.

I think every mom should have a blog, not because I think every mom is a great writer and I certainly don’t want more competition. Insert LOL here. But because I do think that every mom deserves the relationships that blogging provides, the connection to the outside world and being able to talk honestly and openly while being really heard by others who can understand exactly what you are going through and maybe even offer some support.

So what are you waiting for? You should be starting your blog, I’ll even help you get started writing your own blog.

If you already blog, what is your favorite thing about being a blogger?

I like blogging b/c as a SAHM it gives me something that is just for me. And it keeps my brain going in a different way than CandyLand and the park do.

I like blogging because it gives me a forum to say things that I sometimes feel are unique to me, but are really universal. Plus it’s fun to see your words all prettied up!
