Creepy stuff happens at Halloween because everything is suspicious. If piles of sticks end up at your front door, it must be the Blair witch. If you look in the mirror, watch out for Candy Man and if anything goes bump in the night, it must be a ghost.

It’s that time of year, where we all imagine ghosts and goblins in every dark corner. It probably has a lot more to do with being on Halloween high alert than anything else, but still it’s an easy time to be scared. But sometimes reality is scarier than anything we could ever imagine.

A 17-year-old Fenton Missouri teen, Jessica Rue, cannot remember what happened last Halloween because, while she was working at the local haunted house, Creepyworld, something went terribly wrong.

It happened on Oct. 27,2011 on the teen’s second day at work. Her job was to scare guests as they walked through a sinister bathroom scene that was covered in fake blood. The scene included a mangled mannequin and a noose. Jessica somehow lost her balance on the edge of the tub and got caught up in the noose and hung there from 2-10 minutes. No one is for certain how long she hung there but she was unconscious and almost died.

Patrons passed by screaming as they thought the strangling girl was just another part of the attraction. Luckily for her, some co-workers figured out what was going on and cut her down. She was in a coma for 3 days and has lost her memory of the night and the two weeks prior to the incident completely.

When she was cut down, police noticed that their were footprints on the sides of the tub, scuff marks on the wall and rope burns on her fingers where Jessica was desperately trying to untangle herself while swinging from the noose. No one helped her. No one realized that she wasn’t part of the act.

Thankfully, she does not remember the horror of that night but I can’t stop thinking about that poor girl hanging there, fighting for her life while the rest of Creepyworld shrieked with delight. Can you imagine her eyes begging for someone to save her and no one coming to her rescue? Now that is scary.

What’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you on Halloween?
