Top 3 Drugstore Lipsticks

For a while there, I was a makeup snob. Then I had a kid and my trips to the mall slowed way, way down. I’m not sure if I became a makeup snob as a hobby or if the quality of drugstore products just wasn’t that great once I had a taste of MAC’s lipsticks (and I’m pretty sure the color range at Walgreens couldn’t compete at the time).

Drugstore makeup is making quite the comeback, though, in color selection and formula! I can’t remember the last time I went to MAC for a lipstick. I’m too in love with the stuff I can get for about half the price while I’m picking up soap or toilet paper. Here are my top three picks:

Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks: Okay, let me first say that I’m not completely sure why people say these are super creamy. They glide on, yes. They have tons of pigment and they don’t feather. But do my lips feel like I’ve given them a special moisturizing treatment after I’ve worn them? No.

However, the range of colors is unbelievable, especially for a drugstore brand, and they do wear really, really well and feel comfortable on my lips. I don’t get any patchiness – one of my pet peeves with lipsticks.

Revlon Lip Butter

Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters: This formula is what sealed the deal and knocked high-end brands completely out of my mind for good. (Okay, mostly for good…I am still a makeup junkie, after all.) I have some Dior lipsticks and this lipstick/gloss hybrid from Revlon is so similar, I almost feel ashamed for owning a similar color from Dior.

I wear and love them both, but when I run out, I’ll just replace the Revlon one. The formula is gel-like and moisturizing, and though they say on the site that it’s a light/medium coverage, I think the two colors I got (Pink Truffle and Strawberry Shortcake) are pretty opaque.

L'Oreal Infallible Lipstick

L’Oreal Infallible Lipsticks: These are meant to stay on for hours. I don’t think they stay on that much longer than a typical matte lipstick (it will outlast the typical glossy lipstick, though), but one thing I will say for this formula is that it’s not drying. At all. It feels silky even before the separate moisturizer you’re supposed to apply on top. I also like that it’s a very compact case that has both sections, so there aren’t two tubes to keep up with.

I would never associate Loreal with Lipstick for some strange reason :-)
