The Skinny on Dry Shampoo

There is a new trend sweeping the nation for women everywhere: dry shampoo. If you are like me, you are open and willing but just don’t have a clue as to what it is. How does it work? Or, why should you be dry shampooing versus conventional, wet shampooing?

What is it? Dry shampoo is a powdered shampoo that is used to clean the hair when you want to extend the length of a blowout or are short on time.

Why use dry shampoo? Over-washing hair can dry it out and cause hair color to fade. To preserve your color and maintain gorgeous hair, it is best to traditionally wash hair only 2-3 times per week. It’s also good if you are in a hurry and don’t have time to wash, dry and style.

How does dry shampoo work? The ingredients in dry shampoo soak up oil and dirt on the scalp. When your hair appears greasy, the roots need to be refreshed. Applying a dry shampoo soaks up oil and dirt, leaving your hair looking clean.

How do I use dry shampoo? There are two types of dry shampoos: ones that come in a loose powder form and ones that come in an aerosol form. I prefer the aerosol. Dry shampoo aerosols can be sprayed directly onto the scalp from a few inches away and then need to be brushed or massaged through the area.

Have you ever used dry shampoo? What is your favorite brand?

I used to use dry shampoo on my horse in the winter before horse shows. But I’ve never tried it on myself!

Oskar Blandi’s is my favorite. I don’t use it often, but it’s a lifesaver on weekend trips when I don’t want to have to deal with redoing my hair.

I’ve been using dry shampoo for years and as a soon to be mommy my guess is I’ll be loving it even more! Quick and easy. But just me its a product that is worth the splurge. Don’t fall victim to the drug store cheapie brands They are nothing more thab baby powder. Which DOES honestly work in a pinch. But none the less… I swear by TIGI’s Rockaholic and Bumble & Bumble’s line that offers colour specific matches!

I have only used cheap drug store brand and it didn’t work at all. It looked like I had dandruff or got in a fight with a bag of powdered sugar. I love the idea so I think I will try one of the better brands.

I’ve never tried dry shampoo before but this seems like a handy thing to have around! Let’s face it there isn’t always time to hop in the shower.
