Sometimes the simplest things can trip up our best fashion intentions. The worst part is having the perfect outfit in mind for a special occasion and then, at the last minute, nothing feeling or looking right on your body.
How many times have I been getting ready for a date night only to end up in tears, with every stitch of clothing in my closet on the floor and feeling like nothing fits right? Do you know this feeling? I think we’ve all been there, once or twice.
I decided to be proactive and do a little research to figure out what’s what in order to make life a little less complicated (and date night a lot more enjoyable). I’ve researched the best sundresses, the best shorts cut for my body, even the most flattering hairstyle for my body shape and now, I bring you the best neckline for your body.
V-Neck: It flatters every body type but if you are chesty be careful of the placement of the “Vâ€. A high “V†can make big breasts look saggy, and who needs or wants that, for that matter?
I’ve breastfed; I don’t need any help making my boobs look any saggier than they already are. But a low “V†can leave you too exposed and looking like a hooker. Unless you are 21, never breastfed a baby and are in a wet t-shirt contest; skip the low “V†at all costs.
Boatneck: It can perform miracles making your big hips look smaller but if you have wide shoulders, it can make you look a little on the linebacker side. You’ve been warned.
Pick your poison; wide hips or wide shoulders? I’d prefer neither but if I had to choose I’d prefer to camouflage my hips since my shoulders are relatively small already. Maybe the boat neck is for me, after all.
Scoop Neck: This neckline highlights a round face, which may not be the best idea, but on the plus side it makes your collarbone look sexy and your neck look longer. On second thought, if you have a round face you may end up looking like a lollipop with all that longer neck business going on.
Crew Neck: Unless you are small framed with a ballerina’s neck, I would stay far away from the crew neck. It has the “this shirt will make all body parts in or around it look larger!†effect i.e. big boobs, thick neck and chins in triplicate. I, personally, don’t need any help in the “chins in triplicate†department so I will skip the crew neck.
I guess the first step in dressing in a way that makes you look beautiful is to start by choosing clothing that makes you feel beautiful. Wearing the correct size and fit is a good start in feeling beautiful because, let’s face it, no one feels pretty when their clothes are too tight or too small.
But choosing the right style for your body can make the difference between feeling like you look alright and feeling like you are beautiful and actually being able to enjoy your date nights, without obsessing over how you look. Life’s too short to not enjoy date night.
So, which neckline is best for you?
