The Fashion Five: Must Have Spring Pieces

I don’t know about you, but long months bundled up puts me in a funk. Where we live, we’ve been getting a random day where the weather hits 70, and let me tell you, the flip-flops come on (bad pedicures an all), all the neighborhood kids are out on their bikes and the parents are cracking open a cold one – catching up on the latest gossip at work. It’s a sign that spring is nearly here and summer isn’t far off.

Sure, we still have those winter storms popping up, but many of us can see the light at the end of the tunnel and it won’t be long before we can put away our wool coats and turtle necks for more favorable fashions.

So, with that in mind, what are some must-have pieces every fashionable gal should have? More importantly, what are some realistic fashions every fashion-conscious mom should have for spring? Below you will find five that I can’t live without.

The Fashion Five: Must Have Spring Pieces

1.) Skinny Jeans (or a fantastic pair of straight cut) - A good pair of skinny jeans that fit well through the hip and don’t create the ol’ muffin top are perfect for spring. A cropped pair or full-length both work well for the season depending on the day, so add both into your clothing arsenal.

2.) Pashmina or Scarf  (in multiple colors and patterns if you’re an addict like me) - What’s the difference, you might ask. Well, a Pashmina is a larger version of the scarf. It is wider and often made of a more substantial fabric. A pashmina can be worn as a head scarf or shawl, so it’s more versatile. Purchase according to your needs, but when you do purchase, make it a vibrant color and if budget allows, choose several colors. Consider coral, kelly green, navy and eggplant for solids and then choose some fun patterns that fit your personal style.

3.) Fedora - The fedora is my new favorite hat for this rainy and sometimes blustery season. It’s light and airy and adds a fun element to any colorful spring outfit. If you pick up a fedora like the one pictured in this natural straw material, it will coordinate with nearly all of your spring wardrobe while providing you with an additional bit of sun coverage.

4.) Bright Colored Flats - Pops of color are a must in spring. Tie in color from your scarf through your flats as I did with the ensemble above. It brings the whole outfit together.

5.) Neutral Sweater or Blazer - You can go with a crop or full length sweater/blazer this time of year. It really depends on where you live and what your weather needs will be. Pick up blazers and sweaters in neutrals like black, navy, chocolate brown, camel and white – then you’ll be set with easy layering options as we’re transitioning through the seasons.

As a mother, it’s so easy to get caught up in the frump and toddler blues of the day (Or is that just me?). So, stack your wardrobe with easy accessories that spruce up the blue jeans and tees we all tend to throw on. By doing this, you’ll be more likely to spruce up your look on a daily basis and in turn, lift your spirits that much more.

What are your favorite spring accessories?

It seems so risky to wear a hat just for fashion and not for cold weather! Dare I try it? I love the fedora look on guys, but you’d have to be a pretty confident mom to wear one and pull it off.

I’m not sure I could pull off the hat- very cute, though!

Looks like I need to go shopping! I am actually thinking about trying to find a bright green blazer for St. Patrick’s Day. I will be living it up in Chicago that weekend so I need to look good. I really want to invest in a fedora but I would feel like a poser.

I found a great fedora at Target for $15 – it’s a great way to try out the trend. We mom’s often talk ourselves out of fantastic fashion because we convince ourselves we can’t pull it off. I say, if you like it, and when you try it on, it works for you – then wear it! That’s why I went with a fedora this Spring!
