According to the Kinsey Institute, many married couples have sex on average 2-3 times a week followed closely by a few times a month. This is the average whether you have a vagina whisperer at home or not. I’d say for most couples, it depends upon the week of the month, the month of the year and the point in the marriage.

Just married, in your early 20’s and trying to conceive, you may as well stay naked. You have no children around to consider; your only obligation in the relationship is to keep one another happy and you probably still get to sleep. Average: 4 times a week.

Just gave birth to your first child, obligatory 6 week no nookie zone, and you’re adjusting to that new baby smell. All the midnight waking to check to see if the baby is breathing, to say nothing of the actual breastfeeding, you are likely perpetually exhausted for the first 6 months. Average:3-6 times a month.

Baby 2 comes along. One’s waking you up for water, escaping from her bed, co-sleeping with you the rest of the night, and the other is colicky. You are not in the mood to have sex, ever. Your husband isn’t particularly eager either since you’ve been biting his head off and haven’t showered or shaved your legs in 5 days. Average: 4 times a month.

Your 30’s, you have a 4 and 6 year old who stay in their own bed most of the night. You have some alone time for a couple of hours before one wakes up and finds their way into your bed. You are up for a challenge; you’re getting a little more sleep and see sparking in different places around the house as adventurous. Average: 6-8 times a month.

Your 40’s, the kids are teenagers. They could care less what you are doing. You travel. You are over the financial hump and are comfortable in your own skin. Date nights happen on the regular. Average: 8-16 times a month.

Surprise Pregnancy in your early 40’s. Average: Shop is closed until after menopause.
