Target to Launch a Beauty Concierge Service
I don’t know about you; I can spend forever in the beauty department trying to decide what to buy. Last week, I bought some new mascara and it took me 10 minutes to read the various labels.
When it comes to skin care, and what foundation to use, it’s even worse. They all seem to fight fine lines, even skin tone and all the things I want to hear, but what will really work for me? And what color is really right for my skin tone? I can’t tell you how many times I thought I bought the right color under the store lights only to see I had made a mistake when wearing it in natural light.
Target has an idea to help those of us beauty challenged consumers. Plans are in the works to help their shoppers by employing a “beauty concierge” starting this July. These people will be specially trained to answer our questions and easy to spot in their black and pink uniforms.
The Target Beauty Concierge service will help us sift through the 9,500 units of beauty products to find what really meets our needs. These specialists will be hired through an outside vendor so they can offer unbiased advice on skin care, cosmetics, and hair products.
Having a knowledgeable specialist on hand to provide unbiased advice is the good news, but don’t get too excited yet. The service will start with 36 stores throughout the Twin Cities and then expand to 200 stores across the country in 2013.
It’s a smart move for Target since the beauty products industry is still growing and highly profitable. However, I’m afraid those of us who live in more rural areas may be stuck with the DIY method of choosing our beauty products for some time.
