Want beautiful shiny, silky hair like you see in those commercials with the beautiful woman flipping back all those gorgeous tresses? It gives me such hair envy every time I see those commercials. I don’t like being envious, so I’ve come up with a few sure fire ways to get your tresses in tip top condition.

You are what you eat. I know, I sound like your mother. It’s true though. Lean meats, fish, eggs, beans and low-fat dairy not only make you feel better and be healthier, they are the key that unlocks your beautiful shiny hair.

Come clean. Shampoo your hair every other day for optimal hair health. Once a week, use a clarifying shampoo to remove all the product build up.

Condition, condition, condition. Every time you shampoo, you should be following that up with a nutrient rich conditioning treatment.

Damage control. Try to keep heat treatments to a minimum. When you do apply heat to your hair via hair dryer, hair straightener, curling iron, hot rollers, ALWAYS make sure to first apply a thermal protection spray. No matter what the occasion, I am always wearing CHI 44 iron guard. If I didn’t, I’d hate to think of the state of my hair.

Shiny is as Shiny does. If you are using a shine serum, make sure of two things: first, it is water-soluble so that it doesn’t build up on your hair and second, it contains dimethicol so it doesn’t dry your hair out.

Brusha, brusha, brusha. Use a high quality brush that will help distribute oils throughout to bring out the shine. I recommend using a boar bristle brush to get the smooth hair look that the girl in the commercial sports.

I think my problem is that I color mine too much. Hard on my hair. But I can’t stop. ;)

Love to have shiny healthy looking hair! Wondering how you know if hair serum is water soluble or not….

I don’t color my hair or over treat it, but I still don’t have a lof of shine. It must be my diet.

I struggle with frizz, especially in the humid Virginia summers.

I feel your pain. I lived in Chesterfield for a bit and I had to just let it go curly. Making it straight was too much of a chore. It may be humid but the state is beautiful. If you think Virginia is bad for hair, try New Orleans during the summer. Did you see the episode of Friends where Monica went to the Bahamas? Yeah, that was me in NOLA :)

the ingredients, you need one that contains dimethiconol on the label, not dimethicone:)
