Jill Smokler of Scary Mommy is one of my favorite bloggers. I make no secret about that. Not only is she a fantastically honest and funny writer, she is a wonderful person.
I know this through my own experience with Jill but anyone who has ever read her blog, tweeted with her, used her confession to keep hold of her sanity or had the good fortune to meet her in person knows that she is someone special. She truly does make motherhood less scary.
She’s now taken it to a new level with the formation of Scary Mommy Nation.
I’m proud to finally introduce the non-profit wing of Scary Mommy, Scary Mommy Nation. Scary Mommy Nation will strive to assist moms during the two times of the year when feeding their families may be the most stressful: Thanksgiving, a family holiday revolving solely around food, and summer break, the time when most school lunch programs are put on hold and parents are faced with three months of stress and concern.
You may remember Jill’s Thanksgiving food drive. It stemmed from several anonymous confessions of her readers concerning not being able to afford family dinners and grew into an effort, which provided over 400 families with dinners they otherwise would have gone without. 698 donors raised over $20,000 in a week.
She was addicted and now, she is the change she wants to see in the world. She is amazing.
What can you do to be the change you want to see in the world?
