Rockin’ the Red Jeans Even When You’re a Mom

Bright red jeans are really in style and, as it happens, red is my favorite color. However, my teenage daughter is quick to remind me that I am not only 52, I am also quite uncool.

Uncool or not, moms can wear red (or any other color) jeans. You just have to do it your way and not try to copy the under-nourished adolescents on the fashion pages.

For example, you probably don’t need to wear red skinnies, a tee, and converse no matter how casual the occasion is – unless it is Halloween. You could, however, wear red jeans with a white tank and a long white or black casual blazer. Add some ankle boots and accessories and you’ll be stylish while still honoring that non-compete clause all of us have with our teen daughters.

Since red is a neutral this fall and brights are in, you can pair yellows, purples, pinks, and turquoise with the jeans and still look great. This is not the season to be conservative!

If you are carrying a little extra weight (and who isn’t!) choose flowing, soft blouses for a Boho look. Use hand crafted jewelry and accessories to pull it all together.

In this case, you probably need to leave the cropped leather biker inspired jackets to the younger crowd, but that doesn’t mean you need to forgo the leather completely. Longer jackets in leather and suede look great and will complement a more mature figure.

Spend some time and try a few different looks until you find exactly what you love. When you do? Wear it with confidence, because that’s the best accessory of them all.
