Real Housewives of Orange County Season 7 (so far)

The Real Housewives series on Bravo is my guilty pleasure; it has been for years, but only a couple of the cities have really stuck and that has been Orange County and New York. And occasionally I watch New Jersey.

But, of all the installments, I’ve kept up with Orange County consistently so I thought, why not give my take on the ladies this season – as they always seem to evolve…sometimes for the good, and more often, for the not so good. So now that we’re a solid 6 episodes in, I felt it was a good time to comment.

Vicki

She’s going through a good bit with her divorce and her daughter being ill. Having to have forensic accounting done to see if she has to pay spousal support? Yeesh! So, I do feel for her this season.

I have to say that in the most recent episode, she really did have it handed to her when she said that her new boyfriend was none of Gretchen’s business. Vicki was all about making a point on Slade’s deadbeat-dad ways last season (which he is) and now she’s dating a guy who went to jail for that same transgression? Come on…hello pot, have you met kettle?

So, I do think that Vicki should just own up to that one and maybe cut Gretchen some slack. Perhaps she should take a few note pages from Tamara’s amends making book. Just sayin’

Gretchen

She’s dating a loser. I don’t know how else to put it. Let’s put aside the rumors and speculation regarding his child support and involvement issues and move onto his joblessness. He now wants to be a comedian? I’m not really sure what she sees in him. It doesn’t really come through in the show either. He’s just not appealing…at all.

I think the whole “Gretchen is a gold digger” conclusion made in the first season was pretty much debunked. It seems like she enjoys being the one with the lead in the relationship. In an effort to be fair, in one of the more recent episodes, he did say that all of the things said about him via Vicki and Tamara during recent seasons have ruined his job prospects…which I suppose is possible. But, there is also his own personal representation of himself, and he’s not exactly the pillar of maturity.

Tamara

I like the changes I’m seeing in her. I love her boyfriend (now fiance), I think he’s good for her. Her ex-husband was a real jerk. She has become less superficial, less snarky, less mean in nature (except for that nose comment towards Alexis in the Bunco episode – that was not nice) and more forgiving. She really seems to have turned a corner, but if I’m being honest, the jury is still out on whether I believe this is a long term change for her.

I think she’s still somewhat high school in how she handles herself in some scenarios. She should have told Vicki in advance that she invited all of the men to her bunco 80′s night so she wasn’t ambushed by Slade arriving. That was a disaster waiting to happen. And she should have told Vicki that she was working on making amends with Gretchen. I can see the reunion show right now and Vicki is going to be very hurt by the pink bracelet exchange.

Alexis

I am sad by how insecure she is. She is very threatened by everyone else and it shows in each and every interaction. She’s beautiful and has a ton of potential but then she throws things out like, “Yeah, I’m an anchor on the San Diego news” … no you’re a celebrity guest hosting a special segment and embellishing that fact ruins your credibility. She’s trying to match up by lying when it’s all on tape, which only makes it worse.

She needs to just own what she does do well and keep climbing up each step. If she wants to work up to anchor, then she’s got her foot in the door by doing segments and she should work her butt off to get there. Unlike the rest of us, she has a platform to start of from and give her a leg up. But, that’s just my two cents.

Heather

Love her. She’s the most level headed and the least catty of the OC Housewives we’ve seen so far on this series. Although, she is a bit of a braggy-braggersone (is that a word?). It seems like she’s done everything in the entertainment business. But, overall her mellow, mature natures adds an element of balance which I think is needed.

She can be a little too serious, but perhaps she’ll lighten a bit. It’s too early to judge what she’ll be like in the long run, so we’ll have to reassess later. On a side note, I’d love to visit her house…better yet, her closet.

So what’s your take on the cast this season?
