I’ve been trying to start feeding my family more healthy foods.  I’ve been choosing organic foods; milk, veggies, fruit and meats. I want my children to grow up eating clean foods with all the nutrition and none of the chemicals.

Part of feeding my family healthy foods is properly prepping them. Honestly, I’ve always just washed with water and cut, diced or sliced most veggies. But apparently there are better ways to ensure that your family is eating healthy foods minus any chemicals or additives.

Here are some steps to properly prep your veggies:

  • Always thoroughly wash vegetables using a vegetable scrub brush and mild soapy water and then rinse them well.
  • Many veggies require peeling with a sharp paring knife or vegetable peeler to remove the tough, outer skin. For easier handling, peel first and then wash the veggies.
  • You can scrape carrots with a sharp knife instead of peeling, then wash. Or you can opt to leave some skins, i.e. potato skins, on for additional nutrition.

What are some of your tips for prepping veggies in a safe and chemical-free way?
