Nonuplets? Say What?

It was reported earlier this week that a woman, Karla Vanessa Perez, a 32-year-old mom of three from Coahuila, Mexico was due to give birth to nonuplets, 9 babies (yeah, I had to look that up too) on May 20th.

Nonuplets: A set of nine offspring produced during a single pregnancy.

When I first read the reports I was astounded. I think most of us are still reeling from the hot mess that is the Octomom, Nadya Suleman. Who could believe that a fertility specialist would be so irresponsible as to implant a woman with 12 embryos, knowing they could all stick. Now, Nadya Suleman is broke, overworked and overwhelmed with 14 children.

So when I read the story of Karla Vanessa Perez, obviously I thought there was some foul play involved. Some sick bet to out birth the Octomom or perhaps, yet another unscrupulous fertility specialist. It proved to be neither. There was foul play involved, as I had suspected but not on the doctor’s end.

Karla Vanessa Perez is not pregnant at all. In fact, she has three children already, ages 15, 12 and 4. Her mother told local news sources that her daughter had surgery after the birth of her last baby so that she could not get pregnant again.

Apparently, like Nadya Suleman, Karla Vanessa Perez wanted some attention and decided to use her would-be babies to get it. Thank God, unlike Nadya Suleman, Ms. Perez’ pregnancy was only a figment of her own over active imagination or a lie by a woman desperate for attention.

What do you think of women purposely getting implanted with more than 2 or 3 embryos?
