Mascara for a False Lash Effect

For most days and occasions, putting on false lashes just takes too long. Applying mascara, however, takes roughly the same amount of time regardless of the formula you choose.

When you want that false lash look, try these:

Benefit They’re Real: This brush is one of the newer types with rubber teeth. The difference is, there are teeth on the tip, too, so you can easily get your lower lashes and those lashes along the inner corners on the top lash line.

This is also the first mascara I’ve ever gotten truly noticeable curl from. Lashes look thicker, longer, and more curled. It’s also surprisingly stubborn and won’t budge all day, at least in my experience.

Maybelline Falsies: This has more of a traditional brush, but it’s substantially more flexible and has a “spoon” shape that means it’s wide and flat on two sides, shorter on the other two, and slightly curved to give lashes a lift. The formula is runny (think of Great Lash’s formula).

If you have time to apply carefully, coating the tops and bottoms of the lashes, this buildable formula will give long, lush lashes that flare out on the ends (just drag the wand through at an angle) just like false lashes. You’ll also get a little lift, though the curl doesn’t compare, in my experience, to what you’d get from They’re Real. It’s nothing a lash curler can’t fix, though, and Maybelline Falsies is substantially cheaper (around $8 at most drugstores).

Dior DiorShow: This is a mascara favorite of thousands of women for achieving dramatic lashes with length, volume, and rich color. It has a large, plush brush and a drier formula than some others on the market, like They’re Real and Falsies.

A tube will set you back $25 and last about three months before it dries out. It’s famous for a reason, though, and thousands of women find it worth the price. If you’d like to try something similar without spending so much, try L’Oreal Voluminous, around $8 at drugstores.

Whether you want everyday glam or a reliable mascara for special events and nights out, there are formulas out there in Sephora, Ulta, department stores, and even drugstores that will give you the false lash results without the time involved.
