Ugh–something else to clean, right? Cleaning your makeup brushes doesn’t have to be a huge chore, but you should do it weekly to wash away germs, allergens, and keep your makeup looking flawless.

If you like to play around with your makeup and wear different colors every day, this will also keep the colors from looking muddy on your skin.

What you need:

  • Baby shampoo
  • A cup
  • Some warm water
  • A counter where you can leave your brushes hanging off the edge a bit overnight

Put a couple of inches of warm water into the cup and add a few drops of baby shampoo. Dip your brushes in so that the bristles are covered but the metal ferrule is still above the water.

Swirl the brushes in the water and leave them there for roughly 20-25 minutes. Use a washcloth or your hand to squeeze the excess water out of the brushes and then reshape them (it doesn’t have to be perfect).

Dry them with the bristles hanging over the edge of the countertop so the air can reach all sides of the brushes.

Washing your makeup brushes in the morning after you’ve applied your makeup for the day is a good way to make sure they’ll be dry and ready for you the next morning.
