I am a big fan of Dr. Oz because he is thoroughly entertaining and he gives great advice. He doesn’t give the standard medical advice; he elaborates, he explains in detail, he uses props to show you how and why things work and then he gives you a few different options for treatment.

He is the family doctor that we all wish we had in our lives.I’m not one to normally watch medical talk shows in the middle of the afternoon because I usually have 200 other things that I need to be doing, but my mother-in-law loves Dr. Oz and we’ve been spending a lot of time together. It’s become a pre-dinner ritual to watch Dr.Oz and pick up some helpful tips each day.

Last week, Dr. Oz had an episode that shared herbal remedies for common ailments. I won’t lie. I am headed to my local co-op and plan on trying most of these remedies out myself. But I thought I would share them here, just in case you missed Dr. Oz because you were busy taking care of kids, running errands or having a life.

Cracked Feet: Mix 3 tablespoons of glycerin and 1 tablespoon of rose water; massage it into your feet. Put socks on and leave on overnight. Repeat for the next two weeks for optimum results.

Varicose veins: Take liquid butcher’s broom extract and combine it with a small handful of your favorite deep moisturizer, then apply to your varicose veins; massaging it into the tissue. Try this for a couple weeks. It will constrict the blood vessels and help varicose veins appear less noticeable.

Razor Burn: Pre-treat your shaving area with sandalwood oil to help prevent razor burn.

Brittle Nails: Have one cup of horsetail tea every day to help strengthen nails and hair.

What is your favorite home remedy that you swear by?
