As a mother, one of my biggest concerns when feeding my children is nutrition and raising my kids with a healthy lifestyle. During the summer, the kids are outside playing a lot more and exerting a lot more energy, so I like to provide healthy and filling snack options.

I want a snack that is healthy, convenient and feels like a snack not like a punishment. There are loads of these types of snacks on the market, but if you prefer to make your own and have a little more control over the nourishment and caloric intake that goes into your little ones, this is a great option. I promise you that even though fresh fruit and veggies may be best choice as a snack for your children, this tropical trail mix is a close second.

Healthy Hawaiian Trail Mix

Cook Time: 0 Minutes

Serves: 5

  • 5 cups of air-popped popcorn
  • ½ cup of dried pineapple
  • ½ cup of dried banana chips
  • 1/3 cup of walnuts
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted sunflower seeds
  • 1/3 cup of coconut

Toss all ingredients together into a bowl. Divide into five portions and watch your little ones squeal with delight.

What is your kid’s favorite homemade snack this summer?
