Popular colors change from season to season and styles change from year to year, but red is one of those colors that finds favor no matter what the season or style. Autumn 2012 is no different – red in all of its many variations is a statement color.

Oxblood is a rich, warm red that is a mixture of burgundy and scarlet with a hint of chocolate brown. It can be paired dramatically with black and gray, elegantly with gold, and whimsically with hot pink and orange. The color is used as a neutral as well as a way to add pop to a more subdued look.

Crimson red will be shown in everything from cocktail dresses to denim jeans.

Red leather jackets, skirts, and pants are in most of this fall’s collections. The leather is textured or smooth and used alone or paired with other fabrics and furs. Wide red leather belts help you pull off that hourglass figure that is so popular this season.

Faux fur dyed or streaked with red is used to trim otherwise conservative suits as well as ponchos, capes, and coats.

Red shoes, red oversized bags, and other necessaries add a blast of interest to the most conservative outfits. Consider hound’s-tooth patterns in red, or trimmed with red to feed your need for this super sexy color.

Clothes aren’t the only way to wear red this Fall. Lipstick in all of the red hues from crimson to deep wine is a popular look. Lighter makeup puts all the focus on your lips for a touch of 1940s Hollywood glam.

How do you wear red; all over or carefully chosen bursts of color?

I love adding burst of red to my outfits, but I’d love to get a red leather coat this year. That sounds fun!
