Spring is upon us and summer isn’t that far off, so vacation season is in the air. If you love to travel with your whole family in tow or with multiple families, then a vacation rental is likely the better option over a hotel room.

Vacation Home Rentals are becoming the preferred alternative to the traditional hotel stay, and it makes sense for those who want home-like amenities or a more personal feel to their vacation accommodations. Additionally, for families it is a much better option for meeting the varying needs of all who are traveling.

What You Get with a Vacation Rental:

  • Large home with many bedrooms that can often accommodate multiple families.
  • Fully stocked kitchens to meet cooking needs, eliminating the requirement to eat out.
  • Includes extra amenities like pools, hot tubs, pool tables, bikes, games, books, and DVDs for on site entertainment.
  • If you’re a beach fan, you can find many rentals on the beach or with beach access.

Sharon from Mom of 6 offers some fantastic tips on her website for how to make decisions about your vacation rental. They include the all important…

Decide on a budget BEFORE you start looking at accommodations!!!

When you know how many people are joining you and what your budget looks like, make a list of what you are looking for in a rental. Then head to the following sites for potential rental options:

We just returned from a small trip over spring break to a city that is within a few hours drive. The kids were more interested in the hotel pool than seeing the sites! I could have taken them to the YMCA 3 days in a row and bought a new Macbook :)

We do, however, take a weekly trip in the summer to a resort community (in which there is an outdoor pool!), we always rent a house for our family of 5.

My family and I once rented a Poconos vacation home for a week with another family, and we all had a great time. We used HomeAway.com and chose a house that was listed with lots of photos so we knew what we were getting. The house was pristine, had a pool table and a backyard putting green and was withing walking distance of a swmming lake.

This is such a great idea. I have 6 children, so when I have to get multiple hotel rooms it starts to get pretty pricey. I’d much rather stay in a house with a kitchen. That way I can at least recoup some of the traveling expenses by not eating out!

We’ve been looking at rentals too. One hard thing is just deciding on where to go! So many places to choose from, although we want to limit it to no more than a 7 hour drive.
