I heart makeup. I heart makeup because I need makeup to avoid scaring unsuspecting strangers when I leave the house. And I heart makeup because it’s fun.
My main challenge with makeup is that I don’t apply it very well. It’s like going to the salon to get your hair done: it never looks as good as when the trained professional does it. If “Makeup For Dummies” were a book, I’d buy it.
So the more self-help tools that come with a makeup item, the better.
That’s why I heart these Eyeshadow Collections from Too Faced.
Too Faced shadow collections are a set of coordinated shadows that all work together. There are 3 separate palettes in each collection. This, in and of itself, is nothing revolutionary. All beauty companies make eyeshadow sets.
What makes these collections so fabulous is that they come with instruction cards.
I’m not talking about a blurry diagram on the bottom of the packaging that wears off in 2 weeks so you can’t read it anymore.
These collections have little cards, printed on a nice card stock, that slide in to the lid of the case so they’re always with you. Each card has instructions for how to achieve a different look – classic, day or fashion, for example. Each card contains a full color picture of an eye so you can see where each color goes PLUS step-by-step written instructions for application.
The cards are seriously brilliant. I don’t think there’s anyway to screw up your makeup application.
The shadows in the Too Faced collections are also highly pigmented, so a little goes a long way. And when you’re spending serious coin on makeup, this is important. I bought my collection the first week of October, use it nearly every day, and I’m not even close to running out of any of the shadows. Even though the shadow pans appear small, they go far.
The only thing that bothers me about the collections is the packaging. The box that the collection comes in is bulky and hard to travel with. It’s about 4 inches by 4 inches and well over an inch high, meaning it doesn’t fit well into a makeup bag. That’s my main complaint with this product. But it’s not a big enough deal to stop me from buying it!
There are three different collections to choose from: the Romantic Eye, the Naked Eye and the Natural Eye. The Naked Eye set, which I have, is a mix of grays, light pinks and charcoals. The Natural Eye contains mostly beige and brown neutrals. The Romantic Eye has an array of light greens, purples, grays and pinks – a little more variety with this one.
The sets are $35 each and you can pick them up at Sephora or at Too Faced.
