Every year, the Pantone Color Institute proclaims a color of the year; the institute is globally known as the keeper of the master palette for printing, the Pantone Matching System (somewhat humorously abbreviated as “PMS”… insert joke here).
As you may have noticed from the bright, warm hues that covered the runways at the Spring 2012 ready-to-wear shows and are now popping up in clothing stores everywhere, this year’s color is a deep orange tone called “Tangerine Tango.”
Just in time for summer, this bright spot of sunshine is making its way off the official Pantone swatch (above) and onto housewares all around the globe; if you’re truly a design or papercraft geek, you can order candles and coffee mugs from the institute itself, officially declaring your love of this year’s color to the world around you for all to see:
If, however, you’d like to get inventive and infuse the juicy hue into your home decor, consider mixing it with white and perhaps turquoise in upholstered goods like chairs, pillows and draperies, or in bombastic pops of color like the Fluoro shade pendant from Tom Dixon:
And of course, if your creativity knows no bounds whatsoever and you’re truly feeling bold, Behr offers a nod of its hat to Pantone with its interpretation of the color with a smidge less saturation, toeing the line between bright and pastel in a more wall-friendly, sherbet-inspired hue.
And since we’ve made it all the way through this post without giving into temptation, we’ll let our hair down here at the end and make the obvious pun we’ve been avoiding… orange you glad summer’s upon us? We certainly are.
