What do Ethan Hawke, Queen Rania, Billy Crystal, Madonna, Tori Spelling  and Chris Colfer have in common? Besides being celebrities of the stage, screen and political world, they are all have written books!

Why you ask?

Good question.

Maybe it’s because they have always wanted to add published author to their already glowing resumes, or perhaps it’s because they already have a build-in audience in the form of a fan base.

It seems as though many celebs take pen in hand after they have become parents, wanting to leave a legacy or special message of love to their own offspring. Whatever the reason, here are some of my personal favorites:

Ethan Hawke of Dead Poet’s Society and Reality Bites and Uma’s ex-husband fame has written two books:

The Hottest State: A Novel (1996) is a simple story about young love and heart break and Ash Wednesday (2003) an ill-fated and wacky tale of Jimmy and Christy, newlyweds, on a trip across the country.

Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan is well known for her humanitarian work and The Sandwich Swap (2010) only adds to her plight as it wonderfully illustrates the beauty of our cultural differences. An impactful read for children of all ages.

Funny man, SNL alum, actor and nine time Academy Awards host, Billy Crystal has written not only his own autobiography, Absolutely Mahvelous (1986) but two children’s books, Grandpa’s Little One (2006) and I Already Know I Love You (2007) and a book version of his solo Broadway show, 700 Sundays (2005).

Madonna, who has her hand in just about every avenue of entertainment and seems to do it all remarkably well has a charming 12-part series based on five girlfriends that live in England.

The English Rose series debuted in 2003 and has been praised for it’s beautiful illustrations and for addressing real issues that young girls face. The New Girl (The English Roses Series #3) is shown below.

My favorite of the bunch listed above is Tori Spelling. I have read and enjoyed read all of her books (sTORI Telling (2009), Uncharted TerriTori (2010), Mommywood (2010) and a children’s book called, Presenting . . . Tallulah (2010) and keep coming back for more.

Spelling is considered Hollywood royalty and a home-wrecker in almost equal measure. Her books are campy and fun and tell her side of the sTORI with candor, humor and humility.

Her latest offering is celeabraTORI, Unleashing Your Inner Party Planner to Entertain Friends and Family and dare I say that it just might rival Martha Stewart’s knack for party planning.

Chris Colfer, who plays the lovable Kurt Hummel on Glee just released his first novel, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell about a set of twins who enter a storybook world filled with whimsy and wonder. Colfer also, landed a deal with Disney Channel for a pilot based on his book.

So, why ever celebrities cross over to print, this reader is a fan and hope that they keep doing it.
