Bye-Bye to Big Hair

Summer is almost over and with it will go it’s sweltering heat, but that doesn’t mean any of us are safe from the remaining humidity that will linger for a bit longer, here in the Midwest.

I have naturally curly hair and I must say, my hair loves humidity. It’s like a sponge sucking up every bit of humidity in the air resulting in outlandishly frizzy hair. I am serious; once when I was in New Orleans for a week, I could have easily have been confused with Marty from Madagascar’s afro-circus wig (Sorry, I have kids. Most of my references are to animated movies).

Here are some ways to keep you frizz-free:

Never air dry: If I let my hair air-dry, it absorbs humidity and I end up with the frizzes. The best way to avoid frizzy hair is to dry hair completely.

Pull it up and back: If you will be out in the outdoors where the humidity is in the air, pull your hair back and you will protect your hair from absorbing any more humidity.

Check your brush: I can’t even use a brush; I am strictly a comb girl. If you can use a hair brush, make sure that you use a good boar-bristle brush to help distribute your natural oils throughout your hair and help tame your frizzy hair.

Moisturize. Moisturize, moisturize: If you are prone to frizzy hair, always be sure to hydrate your hair with a good moisturizing conditioner, but don’t use conditioners that add volume or you will surly end up sporting a lion’s mane.

What are your tips for keeping frizz from humidity at bay during hot weather?

I also have curly hair and can’t moisturize it enough! I don’t rinse out all the conditioner after I shampoo and then put product in my hair to keep it under control.
