Brave is a new Disney and Pixar movie coming out this summer, June 22, 2012, that is already on our must see list. My girls have seen all the trailers and we are planning our trip already.

I love sharing animated tales with a strong heroine to inspire my girls. It’s not just all about growing up and marrying your Prince Charming anymore. The new animated tales teach our girls that it’s okay to be beautiful, strong willed, strong bodied and to be brave in thought, word and action.

Recently, we have had Tiana from The Princess Frog to teach our girls to have a dream and to not be afraid to go after it, and Rapunzel who fought against evil and had ideas and dreams that she made come true through believing in herself.

Merida from Brave is the next Disney and Pixar princess who will teach our girls a valuable lesson, to be brave. We can not wait until June.

Since ancient times, stories of epic battles and mystical legends have been passed through the generations across the rugged and mysterious Highlands of Scotland.

From Disney and Pixar, a new tale joins the lore when the courageous Merida confronts tradition and challenges destiny to change her fate.

Brave follows the heroic journey of Merida, a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor.

Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land.

Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her skills and resources- including her clever and mischievous triplet brothers- to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late, discovering the meaning of true bravery.

We finally got around to seeing The Lorax, and I have to admit, it was really wonderful! Other adaptations of Dr. Suess books have fallen flat, but this stays true to the message and the visuals are really good. The 3D effects are put to good use in a few chase sequences, too. But what really stood out for me what the clear-eyed message that unless WE care to change things, things won’t change. That was delivered in a strong way that children can understand. Plus, the classic-style, positive music was excellent, and I came away pretty impressed with this one. See it while you still can.

I’m really excited about Brave. We are also die-hard Ice Age fans and are totally counting down the days for that one. :)
