Beyonce took People’s honor of Most Beautiful Woman in the World this year. What a fantastic choice – Beyonce is not only beautiful in the outwardly sense, but she seems to be one of the more genuine and kinder of the artists as well as one of the more grounded and humble popular singers.

I don’t know about you, but I find it difficult to see so many bad examples gracing the covers of our magazines, so when we celebrate lovely people like Beyonce, I’m encouraged.

When Beyonce makes an appearance, you don’t see “Diva” written all over her actions. A clear example of that is when Taylor Swift was interrupted at the VMA’s in 2009 by Kanye West. Later in the evening, Beyonce received her own award and decided to give that time to Taylor in light of the fact that it was Taylor’s first time on the VMA stage (and what Kanye did was just wrong and hurtful).  It was such a gracious and kind thing to do…class all the way.

It showed that Beyonce was a genuine person and bigger than the trophies and accolades that she was being given. She recognized that Taylor was just beginning her journey as an artist and that losing her first VMA moment to the ridiculousness that was Kanye was unfortunate.

I loved that.

Add in this video of her photo shoot with People where she says:

My mother is absolutely the most beautiful woman in the world, and I’ve had an incredible example, I know that women are like fine wine and we get better with age and she’s just such a glamorous, sophisticated, classy, gentle, beautiful woman.

and I just adore Beyonce even more because this is something that shows the light and depth within her and it gives us all something to think about.

We can choose to look at our journey through aging as a time where we get better as we discover new things about ourselves, and I like that perspective. I also love the idea that I could potentially have that affect on my own daughters by taking the time to care for myself and not succumb to my age as if my best years are behind me.

Beyonce says she feels most beautiful when:

…I feel loved, when I feel secure, when I feel confident, its really about who you are, the human being, that makes you beautiful…

She added this about her daughter Blue Ivy:

I feel more beautiful than I’ve ever felt because I’ve given birth and I have never felt so connected and I never felt like I had such a purpose on this earth and never so proud of myself, so I’m very honored and it means more to me that I was named this after I became a mother.

All in all, I think people made an outstanding choice for this year’s Most Beautiful Woman in the World.
