Bethenny Frankel premiered her talk show recently in select cities and, love her or hate her, she is bringing something new to the talk show scene. I have been perusing her website, BethennyTV.com, watching clips they’ve posted of various segments and it makes me sad that I do not live in one of the cities where they are airing her show because it’s a funny, refreshing, and honest show that takes Bethenny’s frank and candid nature and capitalizes on it in the best way.
She is simply hilarious and I love that she’s not afraid to “go there” with her topics of discussion. From sex Q&A to why men like big derrieres, she’s really covering the gamut of “girl talk” topics. She isn’t kidding when she talks in her first monologue about what the core of her show is:
“this is about talking about the things you talk about with your girlfriends when no one else is around – about sex, about your marriage, about raising children, about balancing it all, about grooming, about what men think…we are going there! There are no holds barred, there is no judgement, this is where we’re going to get into it, and we’re going to get into it big, so let’s get into it!”
After watching the monologue I clicked through to watch additional clips that covered sex Q&A with an expert which really delved into those questions you may have had but would never have the guts to ask.
In another segment, I watched where she has three men on a couch and she asks questions like why men like women with larger derrieres {ahem} and discusses the rumors on “size” between ethnicities…yes…yes she did ask that question.
Like she said, no holds barred. I will say that it’s not advisable to have it on when the kids are around. It’s best to DVR or watch it during nap time because they are having very adult conversations.
Bethenny discusses taboo topics, embarrassing topics and all the things you talk with your girlfriends about over cocktails – which is kind of great when motherhood steps in resulting in you rarely getting out anymore. Raise your hand if you can relate!
Personally, I may just watch this show sipping a glass of wine after bed time….well clips…because I’m not in one of the main viewing areas…(sad face)…but I digress.
I have always enjoyed Bethenny. It’s not to say she hits everything out of the park and that everything she says is golden, but I adore her frank nature and her unapologetic, confident, fearless way of going forward into the world in spite of so many challenges she’s faced.
Finally, I love that you see her husband Jason in the audience for the tapings, which I think shows their commitment to one another, and that’s fantastic. Apparently, the tabloids are wrong about the impending divorce – thank goodness because Jason seems like quite the guy.
I think Bethenny’s show has the potential to be a big success because there’s nothing like it on TV right now and she really is a breath of fresh air. Granted, it’s not for everyone and if you’re the shy type, it might make you blush watching it – but it’s going to be one of those guilty pleasure daytime shows you’ll love.
Head over and check out those previews, and if you’re in New York, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Dallas, Phoenix or Minneapolis, check out your local FOX listings and check out full episodes. If the show is a success then we’ll hopefully see it nationally next year. Until then, my little video snippets will have to suffice.
Are you a Bethenny fan? What do you think about a show that covers taboo topics and “girl talk” – good TV or not so much?
