Aprons With Sass and Class

Aprons.

Aprons tend to conjure up images of a frumpy housewife cooking Hamburger Helper wearing a dismal, sad frock to protect her dismal, sad clothing underneath. Or, they conjure up images of a perfectly coiffed, made-up and impeccably dressed June Cleaver making some sort of canape in the kitchen.

Aprons kind of fell out of fashion for awhile. A feminist movement can crush an apron trend faster than Charlie Sheen can kill a nice party.

But there’s good news for aprons! They’re back and better than ever.

I see new women’s apron businesses popping up online all the time. They all take a different twist on the same basic style. Most use really fun patterns and prints and try to keep aprons flirty and feminine.

This company, Susan and Veronica, followed me on  Twitter awhile back and so I checked them out. They make aprons! And sassy ones at that.

Susan and Veronica’s twist on the apron is that they’ve made the majority of their apron line strapless, with a sweetheart neck – a bit of a more sexy look.

The one pictured above, Vanity Flair, is a cute print of uber-chic women doing uber-chic things – things you wish you were doing instead of cooking your very NOT uber-chic dinner in your uber-slouchy sweatpants! It has a ribbon tie in the back and bright yellow trim at the neckline and the hem.

This style, the Stripe A Pose, takes animal print to the max in a bright, high contrast zebra stripe with hot pink trim.

Susan and Veronica also make waist-only aprons if you don’t like “stuff” covering your chest.

Strut around like Kat Von D in this Ink-Credible Waist Apron. It even has some sort of fringey doodads hanging off the bottom. Edgy yet cute!

No apron collection would be complete without one to show off at Christmas and holiday parties. Susan and Veronica offer up their Jingle Bell strapless style. I love the bright colors.

My two tiny concerns with these aprons? One, some of the pictures of the women modeling the aprons look, well, like they have no waistline. I’d think particularly with the strapless style that tying it off in the back would really show off the waist. Instead, these look a little bit like they hang with no tailoring or cut at the waist. It may just be their models.

My second concern is that if I opened up the zebra print strapless apron in front of the husband, he’d be barraging me with requests to wear ONLY the apron, with boots, 24/7. I wonder if that’s my way to a new iPad?

My mom is always very well dressed, so whenever we go visit, she’s always wearing an apron because invariably, there is something simmering on the stove.

She’d LOVE these! But how on earth do the strapless styles stay UP without falling to your waist?

I love these sexy aprons! I have one (that was handmade) and I get so many compliments on it. It’s so not the regular, everyday apron.
