Sometimes I like to plan my grocery lists on the go. I enjoy sitting down in a café on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon and planning meals. In some cases, that means I’m using my phone to Google recipes because honestly, I’m just not that creative when it comes to cooking.
About, Inc’s recipe app from About.com just made my life easier. It’s much easier to navigate and read than whatever turns up on Google, and I can browse by ingredients if I’m on a health kick or in the mood for something specific, choose the cooking method (let’s hear it for the grill!), or specify which meal I need ideas for.
The fact that the recipes are rated by other users (though there aren’t as many reviews right now as I’d like) helps me feel secure in my selections, though sometimes I’ll just take a gamble.
If you still feel like a newbie when it comes to cooking, no one has to know. There’s a section of the app that lets you learn the basics, keep your food safe, select the best cookware, and “cook like a pro.”
Once you do select something you need to learn or a dish you want to cook, there’s no zooming in and out and moving the screen around on your phone as there can be with general search engine results, but you get so many options, I don’t even feel like I’m missing out on what else the Internet may have to offer.
Once you’ve found a family favorite, you can add it to your recipe box so you can find it easily next time. This is a random additional tidbit, but there’s also an egg timer included with the app.
