5 Things You Should Not Have in Your Fashion Stash

With the plethora of fashion magazines, blogs and tips out there, you would think that we’d all be well dressed Mama’s.

{Ahem}

Not so.

I’m still seeing a few things that need to make a beeline for your trash or donation bin.

Scrunchies

You know that scene from Sex and the City where Carrie and Burger are discussing his book and she brings up a point about how his character, a woman from New York, is wearing a scrunchy and that a woman from New York would never be wearing a scrunchy? And then later they’re at a restaurant when they see a woman wearing a scrunchy and Burger tries to make a point that women in New York do, in fact, wear scrunchies BUT it turns out she’s from Macon, GA and well, then a big fight ensues?

Well here’s my point…no one should be wearing scrunchies – not even to wash their face. Scrunchies in a range of colors have no place in your fashion stash. They should not be used to accessorize an outfit or even to pull back your hair at the gym. Period.

Mom Clogs

These shoes, while seemingly functional, are not fashionable. The clog fad is something that really should take a swift exit if you are working towards any sense of style. Replace them with ballet flats or comfortable boots as an alternative – you’ll get the same function with more style.

Teva Sandals

The Teva sandals pictured are something that should never be seen on women and yet, they are a staple for many summer wardrobes. Just start watching and you’ll see them running wild around town in the summer months.

Now, Teva puts out far more appealing sandals, so go with a less masculine pair in the future and ditch the above. I don’t care how comfortable they are, if you’re shooting for some sense of fashion (which being here at Smart Mom Style I would infer that you are) then ditch these particular Tevas, M’kay?

And do your husband a favor and ditch his too…these are eye sores, plain and simple.

Mom Jeans/High Waisted Jeans

At some point in recent years, high waisted jeans came back into fashion. It seemed celebrities and fashion icons everywhere were sporting them. But, from this mom’s perspective I don’t care if they come on trend or not – they are not flattering to the figure in any way outside of holding in the muffin top a bit. Just say no.

Island-inspired Print Dresses

Nothing screams old and out of style like an island inspired frock. It seems to be the chosen fashion of 40-somethings everywhere. Ok, not everywhere, but the island-inspired look does seem to be sticking even when people are hanging in the Midwest.

There are more flattering prints that are on trend and more aesthetically appealing, so expand your horizons if you are a person that tends to gravitate towards large hibiscus print more often than not.

Fashion doesn’t have to be intimidating. If you’re looking to update your look, there are simple changes that you can make and websites that you can head to for inspiration.

Evolving is a necessity as you get older and that applies to your fashion as well as life in general. Your body changes, your tastes will change as you get to know yourself and you should take pride in how you look as well.

Ultimately, you have to do what feels good and what works best for you, but the above five pieces are not advised to be a continued part of your fashion stash.

What items are you holding onto that you know should no longer be in your fashion stash?

If you’re a sports fan then you should/must own shirts and jerseys. They’re required at games and when home viewing every week. And where I live, on Fridays before the games. However, they do make women’s shirts and jerseys.
But please don’t do that 1950′s women don’t like sports thing!!!!
