I recently told you about 5 Must Have Apps For Parents. Everybody is finally settling back in to school and getting comfortable with the day-to-day flow of school time, but that doesn’t mean we are any more organized or less busy! It just means we’re getting through it. There are lots of apps out there that can make our lives easier, keep the kids busy (and learning at the same time), and even help us with helping the kids with all of those fractions and other math things we’ve long since forgotten how to do. Let’s take a look at some more cool apps for your iPad and smartphone.

School A to Z

School A to Z is an awesome app for those parents who have long since forgotten how to do math problems or all of those grammar rules. This free app was created specifically for parents, to give you the help you need in English, Math, Spelling and Technology, so that you can help your kids with their homework.

You can even create games and other activities so your child will have fun while learning.

Dragon Go!

Forgot the directions to your child’s next soccer practice? Looking for a Starbucks after dropping off the kids? Then you’ll love Dragon Go! Made by the same people who created the Dragon Dictation voice recognition software, Dragon Go! is a free app that allows you to find whatever it is your looking for simply by talking to it.

You just load your zip code into the app. Then, you press a button to record your voice telling the app what you are looking for (addresses, songs, the weather…just about anything!) Dragon Go! then does its thing and gives you results from many sources you probably already go to like Google, Yelp!, Fandango, and more. Click on your choice, then click over to the site, and you’re all set.

My Very First App
my_very_first_appSitting in traffic and your toddler or preschooler is getting antsy? Then hand him your iPad with My Very First App loaded up and ready to play with. You’ll notice the familiar drawings of Eric Carle . . . the app is based on his popular “My Very First” books. The app combines Carle’s artwork with friendly narration and there are three levels of play. A really easy matching game, and two more memory games that are more challenging. What’s cool about this app is that two of the games, Animal Homes and Colors, can be played in English or Spanish. There’s also an option to lock the game so that your child isn’t able to exit to the home screen. There are five more games available in-app for only $0.99 each.
Would you be interested in downloading any of these apps?

I think the app market for kids is really taking off, isn’t it? So much material can be made interactive and educational, it seems like a logical fit. Except that you don’t really want 3-year-olds with sticky fingers handling your mucho expenso iPad, really, do you?

I’ve not seen any of these yet. My boys are really into all the games on their iPod touches and my iPhone. My 3-year-old does love the WordWorld app!
